The Mana'o Behind the Name

The goddess Hina is worshipped in Hawaii and throughout he Pacific in her many mythical forms. Hina-opuhala-koa is the goddess of corals and spiny creatures of the sea. It is from a shell from Hina’s reef that Maui makes his famous fishhook that draws together the Hawaiian Islands. Hina essentially represents female energy that’s stretches from the bright, shining moon to the deepest expanses of the ocean.
